Clinical Private Art Psychotherapy Practice

My private Art Psychotherapy practice is based in a tranquil and safe therapy room in my home on the West Hill in Hastings, near Old Town and the Seaside.

Materials and process offered are both 2D and 3D, including printmaking, photography, sandtray, sensory processes, construction/ sculpture, painting and drawing and a range of other mixed media processes. Free, playful expression is encouraged by a non directive approach.

The way that I work There are a variety of approaches to the way practitioners work. I have been trained in a therapeutic approach called Psychodynamic Art Therapy. This method of Psychodynamic therapy focuses on unconscious processes as they are manifested in the clients current emotional challenges. The goals of psychodynamic art therapy are client self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present emotional responses.  I integrate my training in MBT (Mentalising Based Therapy) which focuses on reflecting on thinking in the here and now in relation to patterns of attachment. Psychodynamic art therapy emphasises the visual image and processes which the client is encouraged to make. Creativity is a right brained activity; the right brain is non-verbal and communicates and stores images, symbols and dreams, With the help of the left brain, images may be processed into words. Thinking together within a safe and trusted therapeutic alliance, clients may begin to communicate feelings through words, looking jointly together from a point of curiosity, rather than the therapists interpretation. This mode of therapy aims to enable clients to explore and express themselves in order to elicit positive hope and change, and aims to relieve difficult and painful feelings.

I offer co- produced Clinical Assessment and Formulation, and am able to write reports and recommendations as part of my service.

I am DBS checked, fully insured, GDPR compliant, Designated Safeguarding Officer and have regular external supervision with an HCPC Systemic Psychologist/Psychotherapist.
